Deciding to be a proud pet owner of 12 cats - has it's highs and lows. Rarely do I think, WTH was I thinking taking in all these pets. Most days I truly love having unconditional love from them, they don't talk back and are just happy to have food, water and cuddles. Which let's all be honest....no human is as happy as our pets are! They live the best life - not having a care in the world.
Meanwhile - they sure do run up a high tab of expenses. We've been in our house for almost 10 years now. About 5 years ago we replaced the washer that came with the house. It was an old one, and had started "walking" no matter how you loaded it or the size of the load. Fast forward - we are purchasing a new washer. Which infuriates me to no end for so many reasons. The top two being - cost and that I feel the washer should last more than 5-7 years (which is the average for new machines these days).
We went to a local appliance store to see what they had and get pricing. The older gentleman that helped us, asked How many people in the house? Well..there's 3 adults and 12 cats. He looks at me like, who cares about the cats. I further explain that I do a lot of laundry due to some senior cats who pee on puppy pads, not to mention their beds, furniture covers and our regular laundry.
So we continue to look at washers - Maytag has a fancy pants washer made for "pets". What is so special about it? Not much, it just "removes" cat hair. Last I checked, all washing machines/dryers will do that. Now I truly would have gotten that one, because it had all the features we needed, and theoretically should hold up to a multiple pet house, and the price wasn't horrific.
Next up - he recommended a Spin Queen (and if you're like...wait that sounds familiar but it's not a brand name the general population would purchase - you're right!). Spin Queen is a commercial washer typically seen at your laundromat or apartment complexes. The great thing is they are more durable than the standard residential washer. (After all, they are meant to be over used and abused by people who don't care.) It's the same size as a standard washer, minus the coin operation feature. I'm most excited that it doesn't have that stupid auto lock thing that all the new machines have. Call me crazy, but I like to start the washer and fill it while the water is running and then rinse my detergent cup right into the wash.
So as you're all cracking up going this lady just bought a commercial washer because of her cats. You can switch to crying when you hear how much we paid for this non-fancy pants, take a beating washing machine. Roughly $1,400. Yep, that's a lot more than I wanted to pay, but - the price tag is worth it when we get a 5 year warranty with it AND it should last us 25+years.
Is it fancy and silver (how I imagine all my appliances eventually being) Nope, but it will get the job done.
